Abstract

The research was conducted in order to Improve Students’ Reading
Comprehension by Using Classwide Peer Tutoring Method to the Eighth Grade
Students of SMP N 2 Jawai.
This research was done by using Classroom Action Research method to
solve the problems faced by the students. This research was conducted at the
Eighth Grade Students of SMP N 2 Jawai. Here, the researcher choosing VIII.C
as research sample that consist of 33 students.
Techniques of data collecting were observation technique and
measurement. Where field note, observation checklist, and test as the
researcher’s tools to collect the data. To analyze the data, the researcher used
qualitative and quantitative analyses. In qualitative data analysis, the researcher
analyzed the data used reducing data, display data, and drawing conclusion.
While in quantitative data analysis, the researcher analyzed the data from the
test which calculated by score in each cycles.
Based on the results of research finding shown that Classwide Peer
Tutoring (CWPT) method can improve students’ achievement in reading
comprehension on narrative text. It was proven by the data which had been got
from observation checklist, field note and test. Through the observation and
field note, the students’ action was observed and reflected in every cycle. The
application of CLasswide Peer Tutoring method in teaching reading
comprehension at eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Jawai. Classwide Peer
Tutoring method also gave motivation to the students in reading comprehension
and made them fun and enjoyed in learning activity. The reading
comprehension test showed that there significant improvement of the students.
It was proven by the enhancement of students.
