Abstract
This study aims to improve the reading comprehension of tenth graders of SMAN 1 Jongkong by using picture story. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subjects of this study were students of class X SMAN 1
Jongkong in the academic year 2021/2022, totaling 28 students. Data collection techniques used observation technique and measurement technique. Observation checklists, field notes and reading tests were used as tools to collect data. The results of this study indicate that the use of illustrated story media is effective in improving students' reading comprehension. Significant increase in student scores is evidenced by an increase in the first cycle of the mean score of student was 52.14.However, after the researcher made improvements in the second cycle, the mean score increased to 70.89.
Finally, it is concluded that picture story can improve students' reading comprehension. This research makes students more interested in reading. And picture story can make the classroom situation very comfortable. Therefore,
English teachers should consider using picture story to improve students' reading comprehension in English during the learning process.
