This Descriptive Quantitative research was conducted to find out the students’ problems in speaking English at the Tenth Grade of SMA N 1 Putussibau. The total sample of this study were 30 Students at the Tenth Grade of SMAN 1 Putussibau. The sample was selected using purposive sampling. The data is analyzed through student answers, then calculated and the percentage. The researcher conducted a questionnaire
based on students’ problems in speaking English. The questionnaire is adopted by Ninuk & Maria (2017). Meanwhile, documentation was used to know the students who get the low score in speaking English. Based on the result of questionnaire and documentation, it can be concluded that there are five aspect that happened in speaking problems like lack of confidance, lack of motivation, shyness, fear of mistake and anxiety. Through this research, it is hoped students will learn to get used to using English in everyday life in order to increase their self-confidence. The researcher hopes the teacher use many interesting strategies to attract the students and make them feel more confident in speaking english. Finally, the researcher hopes that this
research is useful for readers and is used as a reference for other researchers who use the same topic in the future.
