Abstract
The research was conducted to improve student’s reading comprehension by using Index Card Match technique. This study was conducted using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class VIII.B SMP Negeri 5 Paloh
which consisted of 26 students. The research used observation and measurement as the technique of data
collection. In collecting data, the researcher used qualitative and qualitative data. The qualitative data was taken from the observation checklist and field note while
quantitative data was taken from students’ reading test. Then, the researcher used qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis to analyze the data. The research was carried out in two cycles and each cycle consisted of two
meetings. The instruments for collecting data were multiple-choice tests as the quantitative data and observation checklist, and field notes as the qualitative data. The result of this research showed that the student's reading comprehension increased. It was proven by the research findings showed improvement in the students from each cycle.
The students were more active and enthusiastic in the learning process. The students discussed in pairs during reading activity and the students interacted with each other in matching the card. Based on multiple-choice test scores,
students' scores kept improving in every test. In test I, the mean score was 58,92 in test II, the mean score was 71,23. The finding of the study indicated that the implementation of the Index card Match Technique was successful since the criteria of success were achieved.
The result of the observation checklist and Field note showed that students were actively involved in the classroom. Based on the findings, it's concluded that the
Index Card Match Technique could improve students' reading comprehension.
Implementation of Index Card Match learning in constructing sentences not only until the completion of this research. However, continued and implemented as a learning program. Composing sentences and reducing boredom in the learning
process.
