Abstract
The aims of this study were to find out the teacher’s teaching reading strategies at the twelfth grade of SMK Negeri 1 Ketapang in the academic year of 2022/2023 and how the implements the strategies in teaching reading comprehension at the twelfth grade of Senior High School. The method of this research was qualitative research. The subject of this study was two English teachers of SMK Negeri 1 Ketapang, the instruments of this study were observation and interview, the results was analyzed to answer the problem of the research.
The use of strategies is intended as a teacher's effort towards students in creating an environmental system that allows a teaching process to occur in the realization of teaching and learning activities to achieve predetermined goals. The results of the study found three strategies used by the teachers, Scaffolding, Reading Aloud and QARs (Answering Questions and Relations), based on the analysis interview and observations in the classroom, the reason why teachers used those types of strategies on students reading comprehension were because to make the students understand the reading text and the students guided to more focus on the text. To help their students overcome difficulties in comprehending the texts and also teacher could help students in developing the meaning contained in the text reading so that students more easily understand the contents of reading.
