Abstract
This study aimed to determine students' responses towards the use of English song in listening skill. This research is motivated by the phenomenon of listening to English songs that are currently popular among teenagers which has a big impact on English learning, especially in listening learning. In this study, the researcher used a qualitative research approach by utilizing a case study research
design. The participants of this study were 33 students of class XI IPS 2 at SMA Negeri 1 Kembayan. Data was collected through interviews with students. 10 students of class XI IPS 2 were willing without coercion to be interviewed. Interview guidelines is the tools in this research. The researcher analyzed the data by concluding the interview results.
From the data obtained, the results of this study indicate that the use of songs in listening classes gets a positive response from students. students feel happy and excited to learn English by using songs, students who learn English by
using song media understand more easily, and learning English by using songs makes students' listening scores better. The aspect that gets the most response from students is the Affective response aspect (feelings). Several suggestions may be useful to be applied at SMA Negeri 1
Kembayan in further student learning. First, the findings of this study can be a reference for teachers to implement learning strategies in the classroom. Second, students should study harder and besides listening to songs, they should also look for vocabulary from each song lyric. In addition, other researchers who are also interested in conducting similar research can dig deeper into student responses to the use of English songs in listening skills, not only listening skills but also other skills such as speaking, writing, and reading.
