Abstract

difficulties and factors that influence in learning vocabulary face by seventh-grade students of secondary school in Kalimantan Barat. This research employed a quantitative research design. For gaining the data, the researcher used indirect communication technique with close-ended questionnaires as the tool of data collection. The subject of this research was the seventh-grade students of
secondary school in Kalimantan Barat in the academic year of 2022/2023. All the data were analyzed descriptively. The findings showed that the kind of difficulties faced by the students in learning vocabulary were various. The dominant aspect is grammar, besides that pronunciation and meaning were also makes the students difficult in learning vocabulary. There also some factors that influence students in learning vocabulary, namely internal and external factors. The internal factors were growth, intelligence, practice, and motivation. While the external factors
were family, teaching variety, use of learning media, and school facilities. The remedies to such challenges are develop enthusiasm and motivation in learning English vocabulary, conduct a lot of exercises in learning English vocabulary, and read a lot of English vocabulary.
