Abstract

This research is focused on the teaching strategy that the teachers apply to teach English at the Filial School of SMPN 11 Singkawang. Filial School is separate from the main school due to geographical issues. This research aims to find out the teaching strategy that the English teachers
of Filial School use in teaching English at Filial Schools, and the most frequent teaching strategy that the teacher uses in teaching English. The subjects of this research were the two English teachers who teach English at Filial School.
The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative research with observation and interview as the data collection technique. The researcher collected the data by observing the teacher during the teaching-learning process,
conducting the interview, and documenting some important data during the teaching-learning process to support this research. Data analysis techniques in this research were data reduction, data analysis, data displaying, and drawing
conclusions. The result of the research is obtained that the teachers used various strategies to support the teaching activity such as demonstration and lecturing strategies.
The reason the teachers use this strategy is that the strategy would be simple for the teacher to apply and easier for students to understand, and the strategy is easy
to apply for the teacher.
