Abstract
This study aims to find students' perceptions of the use of Instagram to learn independent English in class A afternoon of semester 4 of the IKIP PGRI Pontianak English Language Education study program. This research is a descriptive survey research with qualitative descriptive methods. The participants of this study were 5 students. Data collection tools used interviews, field notes and documentation as tools. Interviews are used to get more information about
students' perceptions toward the use of Instagram for autonomous English learning. While the documentation is used to obtain data from the interview process.
The finding stated that all students have a positive perception of the use of Instagram as an autonomous English learning medium. These findings showed that Instagram can be helpful, efficient and flexible to support autonomous
English learning activities. The findings also showed there is a lot of vocabulary or grammar to learn, a lot to know English vocabulary, the material is lighter, and Instagram is also a pretty interesting medium with a varied and fun look. Instagram is also effective and quite effective for autonomous English learning. The faced by students’ when using Instagram as a medium for autonomous English learning included internet network constraints and quotas.
Therefore, from the description above, the researcher concluded that Instagram is one of the media that can be used to support the process for autonomous English
language learning.
