Abstract

This research was conducted at the tenth grade students of Pondok Pesantren Darul Faizin Pontianak year of 2021-2022 is located on Jl. Petani Danau Sentarum No. 4 Sungai Bangkong Pontianak Kota Kalimantan Barat. The purpose of research was to found out how Extensive Reading can improve the students’ reading comprehension on narrative text to the tenth grade student.
This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) method to the tenth grade students of Pondok Pesantren Darul Faizin Pontianak in academic year of 2021/2022. There were 12 students as subject of research and the researcher used two techniques of data collection: observation technique consist of observation checklist and field note and measurement technique used test.
The researcher found cycle 1 and cycle 2 has significant results. In cycle 1, students' mean score was 50,41. The data of observation checklist and field note showed students have less attention with class and teacher, students confused with the material, so it was made students have less interaction with teacher. In cycle 2, students' mean score was 78,33 and indicated students showed their progress. It also was proven by data from observation checklist and field note showed students was more gave their enthusiasm with class and focused with material given. It was made students have more enjoy with the learning process and have better result than cycle 1. In short, Extensive Reading can improve students' reading comprehension.
