Abstract

This study aims to determine the perception of undergraduate students about their identity as future EFL teachers at IKIP PGRI Pontianak. In this study, using descriptive analysis method. The subjects of this research are eighth semester
students who are majoring in English education, A Morning Class at IKIP PGRI Pontianak. Data were taken through questionnaires and interviews. In analyzing the data, the interactive data analysis model proposed by Miles and Huberman was used. The sample was selected using purposeful sampling. The results of this study based on the collected data indicate that students' perceptions tend to be
positive towards their identity as future EFL teachers. Most of the undergraduate students feel happy and proud of their identity as prospective EFL teachers, some even feel that becoming a teacher is their goal. They have their own obstacles and also their own preparations to prepare themselves as EFL teachers in the future, such as obstacles in how to deal with students in class and preparation in the form of learning more about how to deal with students in class, and so on. Thus, some of them will continue to develop themselves to become professional and competent teachers in the future.
