Abstract

The implementation of the English Village program as a non-formal education program allows the introduction of English to be carried out from an early age with materials that are built according to the needs of students. The purpose of this research was to investigate how to apply a genre-based approach in teaching English to the students of English Village at Parit Baru.
The design of this research is a case study using a qualitative approach. The use of purposeful sampling technique is more than one data collection technique consisting of observation, interview, and document analysis techniques. To validate this research used the data triangulation. Observation techniques are field notes, recorders to record interviews, and documents in the form of student texts that have been produced during the implementation of the English Village program.
The researcher discusses the results of the research from field notes and student documents that have been analyzed. English Village activities begin with the stages of preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The results of field notes and student worksheets show that the use of a genre-based approach through worksheets can be used to teach elementary school students.
