Abstract
This qualitative research was conducted to determine the practice of implementing a genre-based approach to teaching English in English Villages at Sungai Deras Village. The object of this study consisted of sixty-five elementary
school students from the English village of Sungai Deras who were deliberately selected as participants. Then, three students' tests were selected as samples using purposive sampling for analysis. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation participants, indirect communication, and documentation. Data analysis used thematic analysis techniques used to analyze field notes and questionnare. The findings of this study reveal that the genre-based approach can be implemented in English village teaching, because tutors implement the genre-based approach
teaching procedures, explicit teaching, and guidance so as to produce effective learning, and the learning materials used are very helpful for students in learning English.
