Abstract
This research wasaimed to find out how the use of Story Grammar Strategy could improve students’ reading comprehension in narrative text to the Eleventh Grade Students of SMAN 6 Pontianak. The problem of this research is how can reading comprehension in narrative text to the Eleventh Grade Students of SMAN 6 Pontianak in the Academic Year of 2017/2018 be improved by Story Grammar Strategy.
In collecting the data, the researcher used data collecting in the form of observation checklist, reading test, field note. These data will be observed to find the result of the students’ improvement in reading comprehension.
According to the result of the research, there were two cycles which in the first cycle the students still did not pay attention to the teacher’s explanation.The students’ mean score still in poor level. In the second cycle, there was an improvement because the students paid attention to the teacher’s explanation using media, the students looked enthusiast in reading comprehension. The students’ reading test had improved.In the second cycle, there were no students categorized into very pool level.
Based on the research finding, the researcher found out that by using Story Grammar Strategy can improve students’ reading comprehension in narrative text. The use of Story Grammar Strategy was also the effective way in improving students’ reading comprehension in narrative text, encouraging students to communicatively and actively involved in the teaching and learning process.All meetings in this learning and teaching process had been able to encourage and motivate students to comprehend narrative text. Whereas, the most important was that students were interested and enjoyed this teaching and learning process.
