Abstract
THE USE OF TEAMS GAMES
TOURNAMENT (TGT) IN TEACHING SIMPLE
PRESENT TENSE IN SMAN 1 SEPAUK (Pre-Experimental
Research Design to the Tenth Grade Students of SMAN 1 Sepauk) This research was conducted by using Teams Games Tournament (TGT) to
find out the effectiveness of the method in teaching Simple Present Tense to the
Tenth Grade students of SMAN 1 Sepauk. The participants were consisted of 35
students of the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Sepauk in the first semester
academic year of 2015/2016, which came from F class as the experiment class.
The researcher used test in order to collect the data from the students by
given the test, the first was pretest and the second was posttest. After getting the
data the researcher analyzed the data by using SPSS 16 (Paired Sample t-test).
The researcher proved the result that Teams Games Tournament (TGT) was
effective in teaching simple present tense to the tenth grade students in first
semester of SMA N 1 Sepauk.
The researcher suggests to the teacher to apply TGT which emphasize that
the students were the learning center and the teacher as the facilitator and model
in the learning process. It has a good effect toward students’ achievement in the
learning process. The result of this research shows the effectiveness. Overall,
Teams Games Tournament can be used by teacher to connect student’s material
with students experience, it means that students can use their own experiences as
the material in learning process especially in simple present tense.
