Abstract
This research discusses students' difficulties in writing recourt texts in class IX of SMP Koperasi Pontianak. This is aimed to find out how difficult it is for students to write recount text with the theme of unforgettable experiences and also to show the dominant reasons for students' difficulties in writing recount texts.
This research was conducted as a case study using qualitative methods Respondents selected in this research is the class IX students of SMP Koperasi Pontianak from 1 class. The data collection technique used was total sampling. Sample there were 20 students taken in this research. To collect data, researchers used document analysis and interviews with English teachers and students. Guide to analyzing the document formulated as indicators of students' writing problems in writing recount text consisting of content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics
The research results are as follows: first, the ability of class IX students at SMP Koperasi Pontianak in writing recount texts is at a poor level with an average score of 53.15. Second, the average score of students in the content area is 16.35, in the organization area it is 11. .90, in the Vocabulary field it was 11.70, in the Grammar field it was 11.90, and in the Mechanics field it was 02.30. This component is the most difficult problem faced by students in writing recount text. These results conclude that class IX of SMP Koperasi Pontianak has a poor level of ability to write recount text. with an average score of 53.15, they need more practice writing Recount text.
Several facts in the field. First, the biggest problem faced by students in writing recount texts is difficulties in grammar, namely difficulties in writing past tense sentences, students also have difficulty distinguishing the verb I and verb II, forms and words. Data obtained from tests and interviews were analyzed using written indicators. Second, Based on the results of tests and interviews conducted by researcher with students, researcher found that the dominant findings experienced by students when writing recount texts were grammar and form.
