Abstract

This classroom action research (CAR) aims to find out how SQ3R can improve students' reading comprehension. The subjects of this study were 20 students of Grade VIII of SMP
Muhammadiyah 2 Pontianak in the academic year 2023/2024. The researcher used two types of data analysis in this study, namely qualitative data and quantitative data. Qualitative data was obtained from observation checklist and field notes during the learning process in the classroom. While quantitative data was obtained from students' reading tests. In this study there were Cycle I and Cycle II, each cycle consisted of 2 sessions. The average reading test score of the students in Cycle I was 72, which was then continued in Cycle II so that there was an increase in the average reading comprehension test score to 89.
This shows an improvement in the reading comprehension of the class VIII students. In addition, in the Cycle II reading test, students showed a significant increase in scores compared to the Cycle I reading test. This shows an improvement in students' reading comprehension through the use of SQ3R.
