Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of students’ anxiety and find out the factors that cause students’ speaking anxiety during class. This study focuses on the anxiety experienced while speaking in tenth grade students of TKJ (Computer and Network Engineering) SMKN 1 Rasau Jaya. There are two research question in this research, (1) “What are the anxiety level of students in class?”, and (2) “What
are the factors that cause students speaking anxiety?”. This research, researcher used descriptive quantitative method. In this research, the researcher obtained the data through questionnaires and interviews. The result of this research showed that the most experienced level of anxiety was Anxious Level. The most experienced indicator of students speaking anxiety was communication apprehension, in this category many students feel anxious when speaking English
because of their lack of confidence, embarrassment, and lack of vocabulary they know. Test anxiety, in this condition students will start to get nervous and anxious while waiting for their turn, and the way they cope with this is by doing a lot of preparation and remembering what they are going to say and the last is fear of negative evaluation, who are anxious about negative evaluation from their friends,
students find it difficult to pronounce English words fear being laughed at when they make mistakes.
