Abstract

This study aims to find out the most common problems faced by students in writing English. This research uses descriptive qualitative design and was conducted at IKIP PGRI Pontianak. This study used a sample in one of the classes in the fourth semester of English study program students totaling 30 students, there are 6 male and 24 female.
The results of the study were collected using questionnaires and showed that the aspect that most often causes problems in students' English writing skills is feedback from lecturers, followed by content, lack of motivation and vocabulary. The study also included tables showing average scores for each aspect and item.
The study found that college students generally had no significant problems with grammar, writing mechanics, organization or lack of practice. Feedback from lecturers proved to be an important factor in improving students' writing skills. Students also need more opportunities to write and are encouraged to be active participants to increase motivation.
