Abstract
This research aimed to find out the implementation of community of practice on students’confidence in public speaking to the Third Semester Students of English Education Study Program of IKIP PGRI Pontianak in the Academic Year of 2022/2023.
The research applied direct communication techniques by Interview and Field note as data collection techniques. The interview was adapted from Rafid (2020) which consists of 8 questions related to 6 indicators and the fieldnote was adapted from Herdiyanto & Tobing (2016). Data analysis using qualitative data analysis from Miles and Huberman in Hopkins (2008).
The sample for this research was 8 students of the ThirdSemester Students of English Education Study Program of IKIP PGRI Pontianak in the Academic Year of 2022/2023from 4 classes and took 2 participants from each class.Thus, the 8 participants were selected based on the criteria of having joined several communities of practice and currently taking or having taken productive skills courses (public speaking class).
The finding showed by transcipt interview and fieldnote indicated that there were four findings in this study (1) student's perception about community of practice, (2) student's reasons on joining community of practice, (3) effect of the implementation community of practice, (4) student's problems faced in community of practice.In conclusion, the implementation Community of Practice has a significant effect on increasing student's confidence in public speaking.
