Abstract
This study aims to determine the weaknesses in reading comprehension of recount texts experienced by class VIII students of SMP Negeri 10 Sungai Kakap. Researchers use independent variables seen from students' daily assignments. This study uses descriptive research with quantitative methods, where student documents are used as instruments in data collection methods. 27 students participated to collect data.
This student document are used to find student weaknesses in reading comprehension, the results of the document show that students find weaknesses well in answering questions as evidenced by 76.59% of students experiencing weaknesses in the main idea, the results of the vocabulary show that students find weaknesses well in answering questions proven with 67.83% of students experiencing weaknesses in vocabulary, The results of understanding grammar show that students find good weaknesses in answering questions as evidenced by 87.5% of students experiencing weaknesses in grammar and the results of detailed information show that students find good weaknesses in answering questions as
evidenced by 77.17%.
From the results of the student documents it shows that most students experience weaknesses in grammar as evidenced by 87.5%. Besides that, it is caused by a lack of limited grammar knowledge, lack of concentration and poor reading interest.
