Abstract

This study aims to find out students speaking challenges in Learning English to the First Grade Students in SMA Negeri 3 Sungai Kakap. This research by using a descriptive qualitative approach involving First Grade Students in
SMA Negeri 3 Sungai Kakap. Technique of data collection used in this research was direct communication techniques in the form of semi-structured interview and the tool was interview guidance. The data analysis used in this research was descriptive qualitative, used thematic analysis. The results of this study show in the first aspect, difficulty is caused by the fact that English is not the language of the mother or ancestor of the student concerned. In the second aspect, respondents tend to be insecure because intonation and accent than English is very difficult. In the third aspect, the environment is the forerunner to the motivation of
respondents to be proficient in using English. In the fourth aspect, the difficulties faced by the respondents actually cannot be separated from the lack of seriousness in learning vocabulary. And in the last aspect, students cannot get too much pressure in the process of learning English.
