The purpose of this research was to figured out the students’ writing
problems in academic writing course especially in writing essay with 3 aspects of
students’ problems. The aspects of students’ perception covered three categories;
effective, cognitive and, linguistic aspect which were seen in students learning
experiences. The population of this research was fifth semester students of
English Education program in IKIP PGRI Pontianak with 34 students were
selected as the sample focus of this research and returned the questionnaire. The
questionnaire consists of 18 questions with 5 alternative answers. This research
used survey with the data were collected through quantitative method which the
data were obtained using a questionnaire distributed to students in the form of a
Google Form. The result of data analysis showed that most of the students have a
problem in linguistic aspect with high mean score 3.44, followed by cognitive
aspect with high mean score 3.42 and the affective aspect with low mean score
3.14.
