Abstract
Reading activity is communication between the reader and the text to get information that is indirectly conveyed by the author to convey messages to readers through written text. Reading comprehension is the process of understanding the contents of the reading text. The problem in this research is understand English. Especially at SMP 10 Sungai Kakap, students' reading comprehension is still very low, due to a lack of student motivation. A teaching strategy is an action taken by a teacher to implement a teaching plan that refers to methods, techniques, procedures, and processes used by a teacher during learning to achieve goals. In the 2013 curriculum, English learning is presented by various texts. Professional teachers design conversion and affective facilities, organize learning, select effective learning approaches for students, determine learning procedures and develop effective competencies, and determine the learning
success criteria
This study aims to describe the strategies teachers use in teaching reading comprehension and to analyze the problems teachers face in implementing teaching strategies. The research subject was an English teacher at SMPN 10 Sungai Kakap for the 2022/2023 academic year. This research uses a descriptive study. Data collection techniques were through direct communication (interview) and direct observation. The results of observation the study found four strategies
used by teachers in teaching reading comprehension, scaffolding strategies, question-answer relationships, think-aloud, and summarizing.
The results show that the level of students' reading comprehension using this strategy is maximized. the results show that students are not only mentally prepared but also have great self-confidence and are motivated to keep trying to improve their reading comprehension. based on the results of the researcher's interview with the English teacher at SMP 10 Sungai Kakap about the problems faced by teachers in implementing reading comprehension strategies. the problems faced by teachers in implementing teaching strategies are due to the different characters of students, lack of prior knowledge of students, and lack of teaching facilities in schools so these problems make it difficult for teachers to
choose and implement what strategies to use when teaching reading comprehension. Based on the results of the research, as a prospective teacher must be able to choose a good teaching strategy according to the needs of students so
that learning outcomes are in accordance with what is expected.
