Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find out how students' difficulties in reading and the factors of students' difficulties in reading in Class X Students of the Sanggar Kegiatan Belajar (SKB). In this study using a qualitative descriptive method, the main subject of this study were all students of class X Sanggar Kegiatan Belajar (SKB) Pontianak, totaling 26 students. This study uses data
analysis techniques by drawing data, displaying data, and drawing conclusions.
This study used test and interview techniques as its instruments. The result of the research found that class X of Sanggar Kegiatan Belajar (SKB) had difficulties. They are still difficult to aspect main idea, Detail, Vocabulary, Inference, Reference Reading is an activity to see what is written and the process of understanding the contents of the text aloud or silently. The definition of reading has undergone many changes. Reading is a very critical component of children’s development. As a psychological process, reading development will be influenced by psychological things, such as intelligence, mental age, gender, socioeconomic level, language, race, personality, attitude, physical growth, perception ability, and level of reading ability. As a developmental process, it means that reading is a developmental process that occurs throughout a person's life. Reading has the most vital role in contributing to the golden generations of progress, we certainly agree that reading will increase intelligence and knowledge.
This research used quantitative data and qualitative data with descriptive methods. quantitative research is used for describing trends and explaining the relationship among variables found in the literature. Quantitative research gathers and statistically analyses numeric data to answer related questions of relationship, cause, effect, or current status. Meanwhile, the purpose of qualitative design, known as descriptive qualitative, is suitable for researchers because it can be used with various theoretical approaches, sampling techniques, and data collection strategies. The descriptive method is a process for finding an important
characteristic of the data in a database.
