Abstract

This study aimed to describe the students perception towards English Club during Teaching Assistance Program at MA Al-Mujtahid in the Academic Year of 2021/2022. This study used a descriptive qualitative methodology. The data of this study was obtained from observational field notes of the Teaching Assistance’s logbook and interview the students. In
taking the participants, researcher used purposive sampling. The researcher took 10 students (English Club members) as the sample of this study. To analyze the data, researcher use thematic analysis from the results of the observation and interview. The information from the interview was particularly concentrated on four topics. They consist of the attitudes, interests, attention, and participation of the students in the English Club program.
This study found students who responded positively to the English Club program because the activities met students' expectations; felt a change in motivation to learn English.
Other than that, the students also believe that the tutor and how they teach is effective by using fun media, even though some material is still hard to learn. Apart from that, students felt less comfortable with the activity hours; after school time. Therefore, this study is anticipated to serve as a resource and study guide for
understanding how students feel about the English Club. The finding can also be used as a source of insight and improvement for the English Club during the deployment of the latest Teaching Assistance Program. Other than that, this study can be used as a guide for teachers and schools to help pupils with their English through English Club as extracurricular activities. The researcher would also like to suggest some points to improve for future researchers who are interested to study English Club and students’ perception towards the program, such as to consider the appropriate timetable to conduct the activity and choosing
appropriate learning material that related to their learning material in school.
