Abstract

This research aims to determine the level of critical thinking skill students in writing hortatory exposition text at IKIP PGRI Pontianakin the 2021/2022 in the academic year. The total sample of 24 EFL students were taken by simple random sampling technique. This research is a descriptive-quantitative method. This research used online writing test. Data analysis for the online test used content analysis is based on the assessment rubric by Marguerite Finken and Robert Ennis. The research shows that the average critical thinking score of first semester English students at IKIP PGRI Pontianak for the 2021/2022 academic year is included in the level category as indicated by the average score found is 60,64%. And the second result there are focus 4,83 %, supporting reasons 4,25%, reasoning 4%, organization 4%, integration 3,62%, and last convention 3,62%. In conclusion, this means that students. In short students’ ability in writing hortatory exposition is still weak and irrelevant with the topic and thesis. Therefore students need to develop their critical thinking through some factors that influence the critical thinking.
