Abstract

This study aims to determine the increase in students' attention to the mathematics learning process for class VIII SMP Negeri 02 Capkala, Bengkayang Regency by applying ice breaking games. This type of research is a quasi-experimental research. The research design used Eksperimen. The research subjects were students of class VIII SMP Negeri 02 Capkala. This thesis discusses the use of Ice Breaking to increase students' attention in the Mathematics learning process for class VIII SMP Negeri 02 Capkala. The population in this study were all students of class VIII SMP Negeri 02 Capkala, totaling 60 students. Control class is class
VIIIB and class VIIIA as Experiment class. The instrument used in this study was a student attention questionnaire. The data analysis technique used is descriptive statistical analysis. Based on the results of descriptive analysis, it was obtained that the average score of increasing student attention from the control class was 122.3 and the average score of increasing attention from the experimental class
was 127.6. Meanwhile, based on the results of the calculation of the independent t-test sample T test, the value of tcount > ttable or 7.25 > 1.78 means Ho is rejected, which means Ha is accepted. which means that there is an increase in students' attention using Ice Breaking in class VIII SMP Negeri 02 Capkala. The implication of this research is that learning mathematics using Ice Breaking is
suitable to be applied in learning mathematics because it can create creative learning so that students do not feel bored in participating in mathematics learning. The pleasant learning atmosphere can make students' attention increase
in learning.
