Abstract

This research is the result of research on learning strategies in learning English by second semester students of the English Education Study Program, IKIP PGRI Pontianak, West Kalimantan. This research is a descriptive study,
about learning strategies in learning English by A Morning class students in the second semester of the English education study program. Bruen (Syafryadin, 2020), A Learning Strategy was an approach to learning and using information.
Students used Learning Strategies to help them understand information and solve problems. This research aims to analyze learning strategies in learning English by
second semester students of the English Education Study Program, IKIP PGRI Pontianak, West Kalimantan. In this study, researchers took 33 students of A morning class as a sample to collect data on the use of learning strategies in
learning English and this research used purposive sampling. The findings in this research are presented in a description of the calculation of the data obtained from questionnaires and interviews. The questions in the questionnaire were made to determine the level of learning strategies in learning English and interviews to strengthen the answers to the questionnaire questions given to students. Students in A morning class used 6 strategies in learning English, namely memory strategies, cognitive strategies, compensation strategies, metacognitive strategies,
influence five strategies, and social strategies. The most strategy that is often used is the Metacognitive strategy.
